Problem

The future of space travel is among us. It's a matter of time before we travel to Mars and eventually live there. But first, we need to address the main concerns of air, water, food, and socialization. I want to inform others about how realistic this project is. I researched ways to provide the essentials for people living there.

Existing Solutions

There are some solutions out there already but they missed one or more of my 4 key features I wanted to include in my project.

01

"The atmosphere of Mars is mostly carbon dioxide, the surface of the planet is too cold to sustain human life"

-Megan Ray Nichols

02

"Weather on Mars is extreme. The difference between Monday and Tuesday could be 170 degrees. The average temperature is well below zero. The air is also largely carbon dioxide — good for planets, bad for people"

-Ashley May

03

"Life as we know it cannot exist in these conditions"

-Kate Howells

04

"This means that water cannot be found in a liquid state on Mars"

-Sylvia Ekström and Javier G. Nombela

05

"One trouble is that from our point of view, the atmosphere is of little use. It is painfully thin, and it is made up almost entirely of carbon dioxide"

-Patrick Moore

06

Opportunities to generate electricity via wind, solar, and nuclear power using resources on Mars are poor.

-Sharon Gaudin
